We used a play based approach in working with children, rather than just talk based therapy. That’s because play is literally the language of children and an easy way for kids to learn and express themselves. We use a variety of techniques that help children learn to manage big feelings and worries, and develop new tools to cope. We have a dedicated play therapy room where children enjoy spending time exploring and learning new skills.
I think my child needs help. Now what?
Call or email us (firstname.lastname@example.org) to talk about what’s happening for your child. If we determine we’re a good fit to work together, we will set up a parent intake session without your child present to allow us to speak freely. Separated parents are welcome to book separate intake sessions.
Once the intake is complete, we’ll set up a schedule for blocks of time to work with your child using treatment modalities that suit your child’s age and stage of development and presenting issues. In general, we encourage you to book at least 6 to 8 sessions in advance to ensure that children have the opportunity to spend enough time with their therapist. Most children benefit from weekly or bi-weekly sessions, rather than “ad hoc.” Children need time to develop their relationship with the therapist and practice new skills on a regular and consistent basis. As things improve, sessions can become less frequent.
